Pedro close to sealing a move to AS Roma

Recent speculation regarding Pedro’s future at Chelsea FC has been confirmed with the Spanish winger agreeing to join AS Roma.

The experienced attacker was widely tipped to leave Stamford Bridge following the expiry of his current contract. Pedro’s current deal with the Blues is set to expire on 30th June.

Recent reports have confirmed that the Spanish winger would sign for AS Roma shortly. This would mean that the 32-year old won’t feature in any of the remaining Chelsea FC games of the 2019-20 season. The Blues still have nine fixtures to be played in the current season of the Premier League.

The former Barcelona player will sign for the Italian side Roma on a two-year contract. However, there would be an option for the player to extend his stay further by one year. AS Roma had been known to be the preferred destination for Pedro following his departure from Stamford Bridge.

The decision of Pedro to not extend his stay for a short-term period after 30th June is a surprising one. Many players in the Premier League have signed short-term contract extensions with their teams to play out the remaining part of the 2019-20 campaign.

However, Pedro would not want to be a victim to any injuries while playing for the Blues beyond 30th June. Such an event would hamper his future progress at his new side. The Spanish international would leave Chelsea FC after five years at the London based Premier League team.

After signing for the Blues from FC Barcelona, Pedro has enjoyed a memorable five years at Stamford Bridge. The winger has won many laurels, including the Premier League and the Europa League in the Blues shirt. Pedro was a regular starter under former Chelsea FC manager Antonio Conte during his two-year stint at Stamford Bridge.

With new manager Frank Lampard emphasizing on putting his faith in the youth of Chelsea FC, Pedro sought to leave. Moreover, Lampard is looking to sign new attackers such as Kai Havertz and Brentford’s Said Benrahma. The next season would have seen Pedro get even fewer minutes on the pitch in such a case.
