Willian Could Do well at Barcelona Says Brazil Legend Rivaldo

Chelsea star Willian is approaching the end of his contract at Stamford Bridge and a fellow Brazilian Rivaldo expects him to have options with Barcelona and Tottenham interested in the attacker.

World Cup winner Rivaldo explained that Willian “could do well” at the Camp Nou if he opts to head for Barcelona as a free agent, but a reunion with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho at North London side Tottenham is another “good option”.

As things stand, the 31-year-old winger is due to be out of contract in the summer with Chelsea hinting at letting him leave when the transfer market opens.

The Brazilian superstar earlier stated that he will stay on at Stamford Bridge to complete the 2019-20 campaign if the UK government gives the green light to play to a finish off the season amid the coronavirus crisis.

No fresh terms have been agreed with Chelsea, though, and Willian appears destined to be playing his football outside of west London next season with Barcelona keen on snapping up the to-be free agent. Various landing spots have been mooted for the South American to make a move to Spain with Barcelona keeping tabs on Willian.

Former Blaugrana star Rivaldo can see why his fellow countryman would appeal to the defending Spanish champions, and he spoke to Betfair saying, “Willian has been linked in the past with Barcelona and I think he could do well there, because of his personality and ability to make the difference at important moments.”

Rivaldo also explained that Willian can remain in the Premier League and reunite with former boss Jose Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur. The Portuguese manager took charge of the club earlier this season replacing Mauricio Pochettino at the helm, “A move to Tottenham could be a good option, especially because Willian would reunite with his former coach Jose Mourinho there, and the pair seem to have a good relationship. Furthermore, we all know that Mourinho has a special affection for Brazilian players and I am sure he would give lots of opportunities to Willian at Spurs”, said the 48-year-old Rivaldo.
