The reason why ex-Chelsea Star chose the Gunners

Ex-Chelsea star, Willian was impressed with Mikel Arteta’s “incredible project” at Arsenal, according to his agent Kia Joorabchian.

The 32-year-old was “wooed” by the Arsenal manager, Arteta’s ambitions for the club, and left Chelsea.

Arsenal announced the arrival of Willian on a free transfer this summer window, as they snapped up the winger on a three-year deal. The midfielder departed from Stamford Bridge even though he was offered the chance to extend his stay.

Both parties ultimately failed to reach a final agreement over the length of his proposed contract which saw him taking the exit door.

“With Willian, there’s no secret he wanted a three-year contract, but the Mikel Arteta project was just incredible,” Willian’s agent told talkSPORT.

Joorabchian, Willian’s agent says that the lucrative money wasn’t the lookout for him. He was drawn towards Arsenal after hearing Mikel Arteta’s plan for the club and his role in that ambitious plan.

Willian spent seven years at Chelsea making 339 appearances since he joined in 2013. He netted 63 times in the span of time and completed 56 assists for the Blues.

Under Frank Lampard, Willian made 47 appearances in all competitions, netting 11 goals. He won two Premier League titles with Chelsea FC. Not to forget, he also won the Europa League, FA Cup, and League Cup during his stay at the Stamford Bridge.
