Southampton vs Chelsea: Report | Premier League 2018/19

The side to still maintain an unbeaten streak in the Premier League. A side not losing their vigor, their stamina and persevered approach to score goals. The side undone by none. The side to cause danger to Pep’s troop and Klopp’s army.

Chelsea thrashed Southampton in their own turf and were put down by the goals of Hazard, Barkley, and Morata. Southampton did fancy their chances but none could cause Kepa any problem. The balls either went over the top or into the gloves. Just once did it cause problems to record transfer shot-stopper.

The hosts did get the initial chance to open the scoring when Bertrand’s lofted ball fell onto the legs of Ings, only to miss a clear goal. Ings, you got to learn from Belgian captain, how to hit a goal on a through ball by Ross Barkley by deceiving the keeper wrong way. Hazard did open the scoring in the 30th minute to silence the booming fans.

A miss in the second half by Bertrand like the one by Ings in the first dragged the hosts further back. A lovely little touch two minutes later by Ings did cheer up the fans but was not enough to cause any threat. Southampton looked much better at the start of second half.

Few minutes after the break Ross Barkley’s first goal for Chelsea came courtesy of an acrobatic volley from Giroud that eventually turned into an assist. The visitors had sealed the victory.

But to add some glitter in their goal-scoring run Morata’s lovely flick over McCarthy of the pass from Hazard made a comfortable win, a comprehensive one.

A good sign-off to the international break. When we return, we will present to you the preview of Manchester United vs Chelsea on 20th October.
