Chelsea vs Southampton: Chelsea player ratings

Kepa Arrizabalaga 6

Played a couple of loose passes in the first half. Could do nothing about Southampton’s first goal. He didn’t have much to do for the rest of the game.

Cesar Azpilicueta 6.5

Will be under pressure to increase his level of performance with Reece James available to Frank Lampard. Played some good passes forward and was solid defensively

Kurt Zouma  6

Could have done better for Southampton’s first goal when Danny Ings got the better of him to slide Valery’s cross in goal.

Fikayo Tomori 7

Looked nervous at the start of the game and fortunate to get away with a poor pass at the start of the first half but Southampton failed to capitalize. Played another loose pass and was lucky again when Jorginho made a clearance.

Marcos Alonso 7

Defended well throughout the game. He did not get in too many crossing positions but had a solid game.

Jorginho 7.5

The first game after officially being named as the club vice-captain and always looked to get on the front foot. Made a vital interception to deny Ings a goal after Tomori lost the ball

N’golo Kante 7

He started alongside Jorginho in midfield and pressed the ball high. Scored his second goal in two Premier League games when he scored with a deflected strike in the first half. Drove Chelsea forward with his pace on the counter-attack.

Mason Mount 7

Highly energetic display from the 21-year-old. Scored Chelsea’s second when he got into the box and powered the ball past Gunn. Should have scored again a few minutes later when Abraham laid the ball for him only to shoot wide.

Willian 7.5

Is enjoying a good run of form at the moment. Was impressive again against Southampton, tracking Ryan Bertrand’s runs well. Should have got an assist when he drove past the Southampton’s midfield and set up Hudson-Odoi only for fit to shoot straight at the goalkeeper.

Callum Hudson-Odoi  6.5

His first start in the Premier League in this season and looked a little rusty. He didn’t do much in the first half. He should have scored at the start of the second half when he was brilliantly set up by Willian but shot straight at the goalkeeper.

Tammy Abraham 7

He continued his good form by opening the scoring for Chelsea after he instinctively lobbed the ball over Gunn and into the goal. Held the ball up well and should have had an assist when he set up Mount only for him to shoot wide.
