With speculation rising in the recent weeks regarding the future of Michy Batshuayi at Chelsea FC, it seems that Newcastle United FC have emerged as the frontrunners in the widely contested race to sign the Belgian striker.
The Blues have been reported to sell the player in the summer as the arrival of German international Timo Werner is due in the coming weeks. Moreover, Chelsea FC are eager on raising further funds to finance the transfers of Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell, both of whom are on the top of Frank Lampard’s transfer wishlist as the new Blues manager seeks to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
Newcastle United FC are on the verge of a takeover by the mega-rich group of Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia which would make the Premier League side one of the wealthiest teams in the land.
The proposed takeover would enable Newcastle United FC manager Steve Bruce to dip into the transfer market and acquire quality players to improve his current side. Bruce is known to sign a prolific goalscorer for his team and Batshuayi fits the bill. The player is known to desire more playing time and Newcastle United FC would be able to fulfil that wish of Batshuayi.
Batshuayi has also courted interest from Premier League side West Ham United FC. David Moyes has declared interest in signing the Belgian international for his Hammer side but has been put off by the price tag put on the player by Chelsea FC which is reported to be £40million. Batshuayi is known to be keen on leaving Stamford Bridge with his playing time on the pitch to be reduced further with the signing of Timo Werner. Moreover, the French veteran striker Olivier Giroud would serve as Werner’s backup in the Blues squad. Such an event means that there would be very limited opportunities for Batshuayi to showcase his talent on the football pitch.
The 26-year old striker was signed by Chelsea FC from Ligue 1 side Marseille for a fee of £33.2 million. The player has impressed on a few occasions in the Blues shirt but has been unable to cement his place in the starting lineup. A number of loan spells at different clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Valencia FC, and Crystal Palace FC, too have proved to be futile for the player to display his talent to Frank Lampard.
