Edouard Mendy- The Game Changer for Chelsea and Frank Lampard

The imminent arrival of goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy has helped to transform a struggling Chelsea team into an overnight challenger to any team in world football.

Edouard Mendy has proved wrong to all those thoughts that a new, excellent keeper wouldn’t make all the difference to a struggling team. He’s proven the point of single-handedly making a huge difference to a club that struggles even to get out of its own way against the lower table team since the previous season. A great keeper can not only just a mere addition but can also make a tremendous difference in ways beyond` the world.

The new summer signing keeper has achieved an immense record of four clean sheets in five starts since he arrived at Chelsea. In addition, he has just conceded only one goal in total for the Blues with an average of .20 per game. That’s Petr Cech-esque performance as the fans are saying in Twitter. Well, it was Cech’s decision to sign him so you know! What a signing he has been for Chelsea in this summer as the Chelsea’s legendary keeper, Petr Cech inspired the club to sign the statuesque 28-year-old Rennes keeper to join the Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s goalkeeping position has been a trouble and a headache since the previous term and fans are literally frustrated to see poor performances week in and week out and so a new keeper was welcomed. The results were fair to mediocre when Lampard used error-prone keeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga who was under-performing consistently or his aged back-up Willy Caballero and left the fans frustrated. The efforts between the sticks were okay, and some were quite bad but the arrival of the Senegalese keeper has changed all that in a blink. It’s quite evident that it isn’t accidental as has the qualities that made it possible.

Edouard Mendy is a long goalkeeper who still has terrific reflexes using the physical actions depending on the body structure such as height, length, and reach. He can extend to distances that shorter and less lengthy keepers just can’t be combined with those stellar reflexes. It’s a simple fact of geometry that if you got longer legs, longer arms, and longer hands you have a greater reach to save than those who is less physically gifted. In Mendy’s case, Cech was almost certainly determined and communicated to manager Frank Lampard as well as the Chelsea management hierarchy that he definitely can. All these results, clean sheets, and fabulous saves are are the result of the trust and soon become a routine for him and the team as well.

Mendy’s arrival has also changed the entire dynamic of Chelsea’s defense as the defenders can now feel confident that if they take assertive action to try to thwart an attack, Mendy will not concede an unnecessary goal like Kepa did in most occasions. The defense can be aggressive sometimes too, to put a tackle to prevent a dangerous attack and this confidence can pay off big-time in the long run for Lampard’s side.

His presence has given the vibes that he will definitely save the opponents’s attempts most of the time. This confidence has inspired tenacity and fearlessness in the Blues backline. With these sentiments, the attackers can have the feeling that a goal is a great probability even if they fall short in the attempt. The defenders have bee comforted and this will gradually embolden the best efforts in the upcoming matches.

No doubt, Mendy’s solid presence on the goalpost will inspire the attackers to take risks, drive forward to the opponent’s box and make the moves that will produce goals, and conquer tournaments. The Senegalese keeper will thus boost the team’s upfront players just by his presnece on the field as a reliable last line of defense. In short, the signing will benefit Chelsea enormously.
