Chelsea set to start contract talks with midfielder Conor Gallagher

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to start contract discussions with midfielder Conor Gallagher, as stated by Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke.

During the summer transfer window, the Blues underwent huge changes in their midfield, parting ways with several players as Mauricio Pochettino sought to reshape the squad to his liking.

Players such as N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were among those allowed to depart.

Gallagher had also been linked with a potential move away from Stamford Bridge, with reports suggesting that West Ham and Tottenham had shown interest in acquiring the midfielder from their London rivals. However, no deal was reached with either club.

According to O’Rourke, Gallagher is on the verge of securing a new contract after making a positive impression on Pochettino.

Despite being 23 years old, the player has not only established himself as a regular starter for the club but has also been entrusted with the captain’s armband in the absence of Reece James.

The Blues’ star has partnered with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, even though Chelsea already has significant depth in that area, having signed Lesley Ugochukwu and Romeo Lavia during the summer.

However, the former has encountered challenges in securing regular playing time, while the latter has yet to make his debut due to a lingering ankle injury.

It’s expected that Lavia will remain sidelined for some time, and his recovery may not be completed during the international break.

Once the Belgian star fully recovers from his injury, there is expected to be fierce competition for positions in the Chelsea squad.

However, Gallagher appears to be a significant part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans, and as long as he continues to get regular playing time, he is inclined to commit his long-term future to the club.

The English star has a strong connection to Chelsea, having progressed through the club’s youth academy, and it holds great meaning for him to be a consistent part of the senior team.
