Chelsea joined by a surprise rival in the race to sign Brighton star Moises Caicedo

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea’s pursuit of Brighton star Moises Caicedo has encountered competition from an undisclosed rival club. Despite showing strong interest, the Blues have not yet secured the signing of the talented midfielder.

Brighton rejected Chelsea’s latest bid of £80 million for Caicedo, sticking to their £100 million asking price.

However, a new development has occurred as an “unidentified club” has now offered an amount higher than Chelsea’s recent bid, potentially surpassing their interest in the player.

Additionally, a Saudi Arabian club has also expressed interest in the midfielder. While no official bid has been submitted to Brighton, both parties are aware of the potential suitors’ willingness to pay for Caicedo’s services.

Chelsea are reportedly preparing to make an improved offer for the South American star before the transfer window closes.

Despite other clubs entering the race for the midfielder, Chelsea remains optimistic that Caicedo is keen on joining Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old has gained recognition as one of the Premier League’s promising talents, leading to a surge in interest from various clubs. In the past, Brighton turned down offers from Arsenal during the January transfer window.

Following Arsenal’s acquisition of Declan Rice for £105m, Liverpool have emerged as one of the teams linked with a potential move for Caicedo.

Liverpool are currently facing a shortage of midfield options due to the departures of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain during this summer transfer window.

Similarly, Chelsea have experienced several outgoings, including players like Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

If securing Caicedo proves to be challenging for either club, they may consider pursuing Southampton’s Romeo Lavia as an alternative option.
