Chelsea FC fans could have a sigh of relief as it is reported that Timo Werner is very close to confirming his move to the Blues and pen a contract which would officially declare him as a Chelsea FC player.
Despite the Blues hijacking Premier League rivals Liverpool FC’s transfer bid and sign Werner from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, the media speculation around the whole transfer saga involving the German striker and Chelsea FC had died down in recent days.
Moreover, RB Leipzig’s president stating that nothing was confirmed regarding the 24-year old Werner’s move to Stamford Bridge caused shock among the Blues faithful who had been utterly convinced about a new marquee signing joining their side in the coming weeks. Also, constant rumours concerning Liverpool FC attempting to renew their negotiations with Leipzig regarding a move for Werner added fuel to the fire.
However, things have again gone to being joyous for the Chelsea FC fans as it reported that Timo Werner has asked the RB Leipzig management to remove him from the Bundesliga side’s further matches in the current campaign of the UEFA Champions League.
RB Leipzig have advanced to the quarter-finals of the prestigious continental competition and would be optimistic about progressing even further in the Champions League. However, if Werner demands to not feature in the quarter finals tie for the Bundesliga side, it would be a huge blow for them.
The German international wants to miss the future Champions League fixtures as the player wishes to fly to London and familiarise himself with his future surroundings. The striker has also voiced his desire of joining up with his Blues teammates in July and being involved in training sessions with the Premier League side.
In any case, however, Werner would not be able to take part in Chelsea FC’s Champions League fixture against Bayern Munich due to UEFA regulations.
Chelsea FC manager Frank Lampard has been on a spending spree in recent weeks with the young English coach having secured the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell are next on the shopping list for Lampard, who has received the full financial backing of mega-rich Blues owner Roman Abramovich to make the current Chelsea FC squad compete for the Premier League title next season.
