Forgotten Blues midfielder Marco van Ginkel has confirmed that Chelsea FC have offered him a new deal to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge with the player’s current contract set to expire on 30th June.
Van Ginkel has had a horrid spell as a Blues player since signing for the London based Premier League outfit in 2013 from Vitesse. He was signed by the then Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho who had tipped the player for a bright and long future in the Blues shirt. However, successive spells on the sidelines due to many injuries have led to the Dutch international not being able to make his impact as a Blues player..
Van Ginkel has not appeared in the Chelsea FC colours since 2018 and has just managed to make 2 league app spells away from Stamford Bridge with Van Ginkel playing at AC Milan, Stoke City, as well as in his homeland Netherlands for Eredivisie side PSV. While playing for the latter, Van Ginkel suffered an unfortunate anterior cruciate ligament injury which ruled him out for a span of eight to ten months.
However, it seems that Chelsea FC and their new manager Frank Lampard are still keen on keeping Van Ginkel at the Premier League side and have now reached out to the player with the purpose of extending his stay at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard has been on a spending spree recently with the accusations of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech and is looking forward to finalising the signings of Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz. But, the English coach would be eager on keeping certain players as backup options due to the growing importance of squad rotation in the hectic Premier League schedule.
At just 27 years of age, Van Ginkel certainly has ample time to show his worth to the Chelsea FC side and reclaim his place as one of the brightest Dutch talents in the world. With the UEFA Euros postponed to next summer, the midfielder would be hopeful about putting in an impressive shift in the Blues shirt and be selected for the prestigious tournament by the Dutch national team.
