Who are the top five highest paid players at Chelsea in 2021?

Chelsea’s first-team ranks boast of the likes of some of the biggest names in world football with World Cup-winning stars N’Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud joined up by the promising names of Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz.

The Blues have witnessed a major turnaround at the Bridge since the hiring of Thomas Tuchel earlier this year and the German has led them to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in ten years besides making them contenders for the much-coveted top-four spot in the Premier League standings.

Let us now take a look at who are five of Chelsea’s highest-paid star players-

1. Ben Chilwell- £190,000-a-week

Somewhat of a surprise candidate who commands the highest salary at Stamford Bridge is England international full-back Ben Chilwell who joined the Blues only last summer from Leicester City.

Chilwell earns a wage worth £190,000-a-week putting him at the summit of this list above the likes of fellow new recruits Timo Werner and Kai Havertz who arrived in West London alongside Chilwell ahead of the 2020-21 season.

2. Timo Werner- £170,000-a-week

Chelsea’s German striking force has not enjoyed the start to life he must have hoped for when he joined the Blues from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig where he had put up tremendous goalscoring numbers.

Second on the list of the highest-earning Chelsea first-teamers, Werner will shoulder a huge task on his shoulders come next season should he stay at the Bridge with expectations of him returning to his very best in front of the goal rampant amongst the Chelsea supporters.

3. Christian Pulisic- £158,654-a-week

The American international has found his feet of late in the Chelsea frontline following him being handed a rather fringe role in the first-team camp at Stamford Bridge when Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard in the backend of January.

Pulisic is in line to grab a major role in Tuchel’s plans for the Blues beyond the summer and with the American international in the limelight for all the important reasons in recent weeks, he could well be higher up this list in the near future.

4. Kepa Arrizabalaga- £150,000-a-week

The Spanish international is basically an outcast at the Bridge since Frank Lampard made the decision to bring in Edouard Mendy from Ligue 1 football last summer.

Mendy has firmly established himself to be the Blues’ first-choice man between the sticks and in light of his recent run of solid form manning the goalposts, many are to wonder how Kepa is fourth amongst the highest-paid Stamford Bridge employees.

First-team opportunities have been scarce to come by the Spaniard’s way and he could well be on the way out of west London this summer as Thomas Tuchel would hope to raise funds by offloading the 26-year-old.

5. César Azpilicueta- £145,000-a-week

Azpilicueta is a leader both on and off the pitch for Chelsea and with the Spaniard now one of the most experienced faces in the Blues camp, he is most deservedly pocketing a weekly wage just shy of the £150,000 mark.

The Spaniard has been a permanent fixture of late in the now three-man backline utilised by the new Chelsea gaffer Tuchel and has been a crucial component of the Blues setup which ensured their semi-final berth in the Champions League earlier this week.
