West Ham United keen on signing Chelsea FC outcast Ross Barkley

West Ham United have emerged as the likely candidate to secure the signing of Chelsea FC midfielder Ross Barkley in the summer. The English midfielder has not been a regular starter for the Blues under Frank Lampard this season.

West Ham United boss David Moyes is eager on signing Barkley for the Hammers in the coming weeks. Barkley had earlier played for Moyes during their time at Everton FC. It was at Goodison Park that Barkley had developed into a great midfield prospect before signing for Chelsea FC in 2018.

The 26-year old Barkley’s future at Chelsea FC seems uncertain. The player has started only 10 Premier League games in the 2019-20 campaign. Moreover, with the arrival of new signing Hakim Ziyech and Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s  return from injury would further reduce Barkley’s opportunity on the football pitch.

David Moyes has struggled to find a creative spark in his West Ham United midfield. The Scottish manager is hoping signing Barkley would do the trick towards helping the Hammers navigate their way towards the upper end of the Premier League table.

Signing for West Ham United in the summer could prove to be a great decision for Ross Barkley. The midfielder would get significant playing opportunities for the Hammers and would undoubtedly be a first-team player at the London Stadium. Moreover, if the 26-year old is able to replicate his old form, there exists the chance of him being selected by England for the UEFA Euros next year.

Frank Lampard would not stand in Barkley’s way if an offer for West Ham United does arrive. The Blues coach is on a mission to strengthen his side with new signings in the summer. Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell have been long-term targets for Lampard. However, the Chelsea FC icon is being priced out of a deal for both players.

If Barkley departs for the Hammers, the funds obtained from the 26-year old’s sale can be utilized by Lampard to sign his transfer targets. The former Everton FC player joined Chelsea FC in 2018 for a fee of £15 million. Barkley’s current contract with the Blues runs until January 2023.

Barkley had recently scored in Chelsea FC’s 1-0 victory against Leicester City in the FA Cup. The win had helped Chelsea FC reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup where they will face Manchester United.
