Chelsea’s new manager, Thomas Tuchel has claimed the affection and love for Tottenham as a child and also proclaimed that he now understands the rivalry between the teams.
The Blues’ manager has reassured that they will be playing their best to beat Tottenham next week. Tuchel admitted in his interview that he has a soft corner for Tottenham being a London-based club but now, he sees them as their bitter rivals. Tuchel was named as Chelsea boss on Tuesday after club legend Frank Lampard was replaced following a poor performance in the league. The German knows that if he cannot give trophies to the club, his time will be over as well just like the previous managers.
Wow, you really are digging deep! No, I want to be very honest because we played a Europa League game with Dortmund in Tottenham and everyone there was very friendly.
‘When I was young, there weren’t daily matches live on TV. There wasn’t any daily matches in the Bundesliga on TV, so what I did see was a match every four weeks and suddenly Tottenham came on our sports broadcaster once every four weeks. I heard the name Tottenham Hotspur which sounded like a very big adventure,’ said Tuchel as per footbal.london reports.
It gave me an advantage when playing with my friends because they had no idea where that club was. I told that story about when I was young and I needed the money! I was young! But that was one of my first experiences [of English football] and I wasn’t even aware that it was a club from London. But now that I work for their big rivals, you can be sure that we will do everything to beat them next week.’
As a matter of fact, the 47-year-old manager went on to declare that he noticed the name as ‘Tottenham hotspurs’ but didn’t even have a clue where Spurs were located or if they were a London-based club but is now aware of the local rivalry they share with the Blues.
It’s been the busiest few days for the German since his appointment as Chelsea boss on Tuesday. He guided Chelsea to a goalless draw in his first game as manager and with a busy schedule of practice sessions, will scarcely have a chance to catch his breath with games against Burnley and Tottenham next week. Chelsea is currently at the 8th place down the table on the Premier League table, seven points behind Liverpool, who are at 4th place.
