Thomas Tuchel appointed as the new manager of Chelsea

Time is now and all speculations ended with Chelsea confirming Thomas Tuchel as the new Chelsea Head Coach. Tuchel was sacked just before the new year 2021 by Paris Saint Germain without any prior notice. He will manage the Blues following a two-and-a-half-year spell at the French champion’s club following Lampard’s exit from the hot-seat of Chelsea.

With this appointment, Tuchel becomes the first German manager to be in charge of the Chelsea club. He has helped his previous club, PSG to reach the Champions League Final in the previous season and has won four major titles in his tenure at the club.

The German coach has signed a contract of 18 months with an option to extend if he succeeds in his tenure. He gave respect to former manager Frank Lampard and said to be excited to join the Chelsea family following his appointment.

Tuchel said as per Chelsea’s Official website: ‘I would like to thank Chelsea FC for their confidence in me and my staff.

‘We all have the greatest respect for Frank Lampard’s work and the legacy he created at Chelsea. At the same time, I cannot wait to meet my new team and compete in the most exciting league in football. I am grateful to now be part of the Chelsea family – it feels amazing!’

Director Marina Granovskaia added: ‘It is never easy to change Head Coach in the middle of the season but we are very happy to secure one of Europe’s best coaches in Thomas Tuchel. There is still much to play for and much to achieve, this season and beyond. We welcome Thomas to the Club.’

Prior to coaching PSG, he coached Mainz of Bundesliga where he guided the club to the Europa League for the first time and won the German Cup with Borussia Dortmund. He will reunite with his old player, Thiago Silva and Christian Pulisic at Chelsea. He will be at the Chelsea dug-out for the first time in the game against Wolves.
