Timo Werner claims interest from many top teams before joining Chelsea FC

New Chelsea FC signing Timo Werner has stated that there were a host of other top teams vying for his signature before the German striker chose to join the Blues. Werner will become an official Chelsea FC player from 1st July, after making the move to Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig.

The 24-year old German had been widely expected to join Liverpool FC in the summer. Werner had himself addressed the speculation, with the player expressing hope of playing for Jurgen Klopp’s high-flying squad. However, upon learning of Werner’s £47.5 million release clause, Liverpool FC chose to end their interest in signing the former Leipzig star.

Chelsea FC were successful in hijacking Liverpool FC’s transfer approach towards Werner. Frank Lampard identified the German international as a key addition to the Blues. A deal was soon agreed upon by both Chelsea FC and RB Leipzig for Werner’s transfer.

And now the German striker has claimed that a number of top sides were after him for his signature. Werner said that Inter Milan FC had declared their interest in signing him and wanted the player to make the move to Serie A. Italian giants Juventus had also been rumored to be interested in Werner last summer.

Moreover, besides Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC in the Premier League, Manchester United too were been linked with a move for Werner. The 24-year old player claimed that the best clubs had been engaged in a battle to sign him.

Werner, however, added that Chelsea FC seemed the best option for him to sign for. According to the striker, with the Blues being a dominant side in Europe, becoming a Chelsea FC player would not be a decision he would regret later on in his career.

The player clarified rumors suggesting that money played a big part in his move to Stamford Bridge. Werner claimed that if money had been a motive, he would have secured a move to China. According to him, money was a very insignificant matter concerning him joining Frank Lampard’s side.
