Timo Werner and Kai Havertz make debuts in Chelsea’s 3-1 win against Brighton

Chelsea has made a number of summer signings, although only the German pair was fit enough to feature at the Amex Stadium.

It was a rusty start for Havertz but Werner, in particular, was lively on his debut Chelsea appearance. He won a penalty in the 21st minute which was converted by Jorginho.

But Brighton had strengthened themselves well in the transfer window thus had their fair share of chances. They deservedly leveled the scoreline when Leandro Trossard fired home at the 54th minute of the game.

Both teams found their feet in the opening 20 minutes after the strangest of pre-seasons in which these two sides met just over two weeks ago.

Werner looked in good shape and it was his pace that won Chelsea’s penalty. Steven Alzate’s poor pass landed to Jorginho, who poked the ball through for his new team-mate, who was tripped by the onrushing Ryan.
