Chelsea striker, Timo Werner explains the ways he is trying to deal with all the pressures of life as a big summer signing at Stamford Bridge. The Premier League has a global appeal, a different style of play and joining a club as big as Chelsea implies always under a microscope. Every off-form and words on and off the pitch will be scrutinized by the English media.
This new environment has proved to be difficult for Werner as he moved from Germany’s league to England. And someone like his stature and garnering interested from top clubs, people and fans will be expecting immediate results from him as soon as he joined.
This has been the exact case with the German international as he has been under immense pressure to score goals which he is lacking at the moment.
‘It does matter how much you cost,’ he said as per the Official Chelsea website. ‘It’s always a bit of pressure when you come to a new club and you want to score on your own but now you also want to score for your new team-mates, for your club.’
‘You have to score and the pressure you have in every new club, but I think I can handle it very well because I got the same pressure at my old club and everybody wanted me to score. It’s not something new to me but now it’s a new ground from where I’ve been so it’s new people and new players around me.
‘So the pressure is a little bit higher than the last years but I think good footballers are the best under pressure and that’s my plan, I can do very well under pressure.’
However, Werner assured that he is well versed with the pressure and thinks that the best players thrive under pressure. He also wants to perform for his new-teammates as well-something he is concerned about since he is not getting his goals.
Seems like Werner will take some more time to adapt to the fast-paced and tough league in the world which he is experiencing right now at Chelsea.
