Chelsea’s fans have been discussing French forwarder Christopher Nkunku a lot this season. Signed last year for a big amount from RB Leipzig, this first season in England has been marked by injuries. Knee and hamstring pain have kept him out, so he played only 13 games overall and just 10 in the league.
Yet, when he played, he showed he could be key for Pochettino in future seasons. One of his best glimpses was his third goal in Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Brighton. But it wasn’t just the goal that stood out. Nkunku took a balloon from his sock, blew it up, and raised his arms to the sky.
And it was not the first time he had partied in this way. He first did it during a Leipzig win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League in 2022.And this unusual celebration had everybody intrigued about what the significance of the balloon might be.
The reason behind this is pretty simple and heartfelt. Nkunku revealed that the balloon was a tribute to his son, who loves balloons. That, of course, added a bit of emotion to his joy.

Chelsea’s win over Brighton has put them close to ending sixth in the Premier League. That would get Chelsea into next year’s Europa League. Chelsea ranks high in the Premier League. Only Arsenal and Manchester City have more points over the last 15 games. Pochettino was very happy after Chelsea beat Brighton. He added that the Premier League is very tough.
He said the win was well-deserved for his players, and he was pleased and very hopeful of playing in Europe next season.
Recovery and maintaining a winning mentality were the order of the day. He underpinned that they needed belief, performances, and results. What he does and the story behind it is a pretty nice touch, adding to his likability. With Chelsea performing so well, it would be something the fans would want to see more from Nkunku’s balloon celebrations.
