Star midfielder N’Golo Kante rejects Chelsea’s new contract proposal

Star midfielder N’Golo Kante has turned down Chelsea’s new contract proposal which could spell out more uncertainty over his future at Stamford Bridge beyond the next summer.

The World Cup-winning Frenchman is out of contract in less than 12 months’ time and some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including the likes of PSG and Real Madrid, have been credited with an interest in moving in for Kante.

According to a report from Metro, Chelsea are offering Kante an initial two-year deal with an option of a further 12 months, which has not gone down well with the midfielder considering that another 31-year-old in Kalidou Koulibaly was given a four-year deal last month.

Kante can sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs come January 1 and there would be fear in the Chelsea camp over losing out on the former Leicester City man for nothing should the contract talks continue to remain in an impasse.

New Chelsea head coach Graham Potter, who was appointed to the top job last week, is likely to prioritise an extension for the highly-rated Kante with the latter’s ability on the pitch well-documented despite his recent injury struggles.
