Sometimes you feel anything can happen, says Olivier Giroud on his perfect UCL night

Olivier Giroud’s ruthless performance in the Champions League on Wednesday confirmed that Chelsea will progress to the next round of elimination as the Group leaders. His impressive display on his rare start for Chelsea helped his team win 4-0 against Sevilla.

The French striker was substituted after he netted his individual and the team’s fourth goal of the match. Giroud has been subjected to lots of speculations this season after France coach, Didier Deschamps urged him to change his clubs as he has fallen below the pecking order. His words were clear that if he wishes to play the Euros in the coming summer, then he has to seek a solution for himself.

Giroud has even hinted at a move to another club in the coming winter transfer season and Lampard has said that he is still a crucial player of the squad- and that he won’t stand in the way of his any decision.

Although he is 34 years of age, his magical performance against Sevilla proves he still has got what it takes to remains one of the elite strikers currently in the world. He even scored the late-winner for Chelsea against Rennes in the UCL match after he came as a substitute.

‘It’s always nice to be a part of club history,’ Giroud said as per the Official Chelsea website.

‘You play football to write great stories. I’m proud. I had great assists from my team-mates and I just tried to finish the job.

‘When I’m on the pitch I’m the happiest man. I just try to be patient, keep the faith and bring something else to the team. It is always special to play in the Champions League and it was an important game to finish first in the group, so I’m pleased to help the team to win.

‘Sometimes you feel anything can happen, and that was one of them.’

‘Our ambition is to compete with the best teams in the Premier League, and in the Champions League to go as far as we can. We have shown we have a great squad and we can count on a lot of talented players. It will give us the opportunity to play in both competitions,’ he added.

Giroud was very elated after such a spectacular performance but he didn’t forget to mention the contributions of his teammates in the game. He even said that he can feel anything can happen and that the team is aiming for the title.

Lampard’s side has got a huge boost with the performance and now they boast of having a squad depth of immense talent to compete for the domestic and European glory this season.
