Sevilla FC express interest in signing Marcos Alonso

La Liga side Sevilla FC are rumoured to be interested in signing Chelsea FC left-back Marcos Alonso. The Spaniard is expected to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer, with Blues coach Frank Lampard wanting to sign Ben Chilwell instead. However, pricing concerns over Chilwell’s transfer have led to a roadblock in Chelsea FC’s negotiations with Leicester City.

Alonso has been unable to impress Lampard with his run of form in the Blues’ starting lineup of late. The Chelsea FC is reported to be eager on selling both Alonso as well as Emerson Palmieri this summer. The latter is edging closer to sealing a move worth £20 million to Inter Milan.

However, Alonso’s move could have a resonating impact on Lampard’s attempt towards signing the 23-year old Chilwell. Leicester City are persistent in sticking to their £70million valuation for the English international. The Foxes had demanded a similar amount of money for letting Harry Maguire depart last summer for Manchester United.

The sale of the 29-year old Alonso could generate ample funds to be used by Lampard for tabling a bid for the Leicester City star. Lampard has decided to offload certain fringe players at the club to make way for new acquisitions in the summer.

The Spanish international has been subject to much criticism lately for his horrific showings in recent games for the Blues. Premier League legend Gary Neville had lambasted Alonso’s performance for Chelsea FC against West Ham United a few weeks earlier.

The former Manchester United player had stated that the Blues’ left-back was accountable for not fulfilling his defensive responsibilities on the pitch. Lampard had come to the defence of his player following Neville’s criticism, with the Chelsea FC boss insisting that it was a terrible performance of the team as a whole.

Sevilla are set to clinch a top-four finish in the La Liga as per the current league standings. As a result, the Spanish club would be able to qualify for Champions League football next season. Alonso could see this as a great incentive to join the club where he would be getting first-team opportunities without any doubt.
