Ross Barkley Opens Up On Penalty Miss

Chelsea star Ross Barkley has admitted that he is not completely low on confidence following his penalty miss against Valencia in the 1-0 loss during the opening game of the Champions League.

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea fell behind to Rodrigo Moreno’s 74th-minute strike in the clash at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday and the visitors earned a crucial three points against the English team. However, Chelsea was awarded a penalty in the final few stages of the game but Ross Barkley failed to convert from the spot after being introduced as a substitute in the game.

The English midfielder had been on the field for just seven minutes when Daniel Wass’ handball gave Chelsea the penalty and he stepped up despite Willian and Jorginho both appearing to stake their claims to take the spot kick.

Barkley’s penalty grazed the top of the crossbar on its way over and Chelsea began their Champions League campaign with a defeat. But the 25-year-old Barkley has explained that his penalty miss is not the end of the world, “If there was another penalty in the game I would have been confident of taking it. You can miss penalties. It’s not the end of the world. We’ve got five more group games to go that we’re aiming to win. I’m gutted I missed, but these things happen.

Chelsea will now face another tough test at the weekend as Premier League leaders Liverpool make the trip to West London for a fascinating encounter on Sunday.
