Rio Ferdinand questions if Liverpool was really interested in Chelsea’s Timo Werner

Rio Ferdinand has expressed doubts on whether Liverpool was actually interested in German striker, Timo Werner in the last summer transfer period. As per the news, Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp was very keen to bolster his attacking side by bringing in Timo Werner who had previously garnered interested from Real Madrid as well.

Timo Werner finally snubbed Liverpool to join Frank Lampard’s Chelsea from RB Leipzig and has been a great attacking threat lately for the club. It was speculated that there was utmost regret on failing to land Werner at Anfield and later they went on to sign Diego Jota, a Portuguese winger from Wolves.

The young attacking player, Jota has had a very huge effect at his new club as he picked eight goals in his first twelve games, and Rio Ferdinand questions that failing to land Werner has been a boon. Not much time did Jota take to settle before starting to deliver match-winning goals back to back in the Premier League.

“I probably question whether they really were in for Werner,” he said on BT Sport via Liverpool Echo report ahead of last night’s 2-0 defeat to Atalanta.

“Because Jota came around quite quickly after that and they all seemed very happy with that.”

With the signing going without any hurdles, Ferdinand has wondered if the club was ever in for Werner. Also, Ferdinand has lauded Liverpool’s mentality for how they have responded to Virgil van Dijk’s season-ending injury.

They created a mentality, created an environment where they thought that they are not going to suffer at all. They have played seven games since and they won six matches and one draw.
