Rio Ferdinand believes Chelsea will regret selling Mason Mount to Man United

Rio Ferdinand believes that Chelsea may come to regret their decision to sell Mason Mount to Manchester United in the future.

On Wednesday, it was officially announced that Mount had joined Man United, following a lengthy pursuit for his signature.

The 24-year-old midfielder ended his 18-year tenure with Chelsea, confirming his departure from the club in a message to the Chelsea fans on Tuesday.

Mount has signed a contract with United that will be valid until June 2028, with the possibility of extending it for another year. The 24-year-old midfielder had previously made 279 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 58 goals and providing 53 assists.

He was named Chelsea’s Player of the Year for both the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, and he was a key contributor to their Champions League victory. Following his move to United, Mount has been assigned the prestigious No.7 jersey.

Rio Ferdinand expressed his satisfaction on Twitter regarding Mount’s transfer to Old Trafford. The former United defender believes that Mount’s arrival will bring goals, creativity, and a strong work ethic to the team.

Ferdinand concluded by stating that, given enough time, Chelsea will eventually regret their decision to sell Mount to Manchester United. As stated by the Daily Mail, he said:

“Really pleased with Mount coming in. Young, talented & hungry. He has the experience of big games with pressure which comes when playing for Utd.”

“As a player, he will bring us goals, creativity, a work ethic & a willing runner into the opposition box. He definitely adds to what we have in the squad and is different from the others in midfield. I actually think in time Chelsea will regret selling Mount.”

Chelsea and Mount had been engaged in negotiations for several months regarding a potential contract extension. With just one year remaining on his existing contract, there were discussions regarding extending his stay at Stamford Bridge.

Unfortunately, the two parties were unable to reach an agreement. Hence, United started expressing significant interest in the midfielder, and it ultimately influenced his decision to consider a move away from Chelsea.

The Red Devils have got a good player in their hands but it also highlights the Blues recent mass exodus under Mauricio Pochettino.

The academy graduate has the capability to succeed at Old Trafford and under Erik ten Hag he could develop himself further in numerous positions.

It still remains to be seen whether the club regrets selling the 24-year-old to their fierce rivals.
