Ranking Chelsea’s Best Champions League Goals of All Time

We’ve only just recovered from the phenomenal UEFA Champions League Final that saw Real Madrid (Hala Madrid) beat unlucky Liverpool (they are not walking alone) to become the best soccer team in Europe. To be champions of Europe is the one title every European club covets and aims to win every year. One such team nicknamed The Pensioners or as they are better known Chelsea FC, has won the title two times, with the last time being in the 2021 season. Formed in 1905, the club is formidable on the field and has some insane goals under its belt. So much so that we’ve looked at some of the best goals scored by the side in the Champions League.

VS Bayern Munich 19 May 2012

This was an epic final match between these two sides. Not only was it down to the wire for Chelsea, but Bayern Munich proved a tough opponent to beat. Throughout the match, Bayern Munich was in control and led for most of the game. It wasn’t looking good for Chelsea at all, and their opponents pretty much sealed the deal when Thomas Müller scored a goal in the 83rd minute. For a final, soccer fans know that scoring so late in the game means the other side is more than likely to lose but this was not the case. In the literal last two minutes of the match, Didier Drogba scored for Chelsea. This was arguably the greatest goal ever seen for the side. This led to extra time which then led to a penalty shootout which saw Chelsea walk away as the champions of Europe. Drogba’s goal was the reason for this. It was simply spectacular.

VS Barcelona 18 October 2006

If we are talking about the sheer class on the field, then we always picture Didier Drogba. The Côte d’Ivoire native was truly a superstar on the pitch and scored some incredible goals during his tenure as a professional soccer player. Now let’s get back to the incredible goal he scored against a top-form Barcelona side. This was truly a tough match, Barcelona was the greatest soccer team at the time so Chelsea knew going into this game would not be easy. However, during the 46th-minute, Drogba did the unimaginable and scored the only goal. What makes this more spectacular was the fact that he couldn’t believe what he had just done.

VS Manchester City 29 May 2021

Another Champions League final was super exciting. At this point, Chelsea already had one Champions League title under their belts, while Man City was hoping to bag their first one. Things were shaky in the first half of the game, with no clear leader in sight. But it was a mere 3 minutes before the half-time whistle was blown that saw Kai Havertz score the winning goal for Chelsea. It was the only goal of the game. So, what went down? Mason Mount passed the ball to Havertz who went one-on-one with City’s Ederson and deflected the ball straight into the back of the net.

VS Real Madrid 12 April 2022

Since Real Madrid has been on top form in the 2022 Champions League season, anyone who came up against the side was in for a rough match and everyone expected pretty much the same in this match. While Chelsea won this game on goals, they were ultimately knocked out due to the goal difference between the teams. But let’s have a look at each of the goals scored. In the first 15 minutes of the game, there was one yellow card, and this would pretty much be the theme throughout the match.

Mason Mount secured the first goal for the Blues with an assist by Timo Werner. Then at minute 51, Antonio Rüdiger scored the second goal for the side, as well as the second goal of the game. This was an assist from Mason Mount. To make matters interesting, Chelsea needed to pound Real Madrid hard for them not to score. Chelsea scored their third and final goal in the 75th minute and this was done by Timo Werner. While the reigning champions were knocked out, the three goals gave them some hope to continue their reign. However, we are looking forward to seeing the Blues this next season and what they are going to do on the pitch.
