Pulisic optimistic about scoring goals for Chelsea

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic is confident he will rediscover his “scoring touch” after helping Chelsea to victory over Newcastle United on Saturday.

The United States international has had a bit of a turbulent start to his Chelsea career after his big-money arrival from Dortmund and is yet to register a goal for his new side.

Introduced just after the hour mark this weekend, however, Pulisic’s driving run and pass inside to Callum Hudson-Odoi helped create space for Marcos Alonso, who fired home the game’s only goal, and the winger said after the game that he is confident he can build on his promising cameo.

Speaking after the game, Pulisic said he feels confident he can use this promising performance as a platform to build on in the coming weeks.

It was a really good game, happy for the team, had a strong performance, they defended really well, and I was happy to make an impact,’ Pulisic told ESPN after the match.

‘(Lampard) told me to do exactly what I’m doing now, continue to train hard, when I get my opportunity I have to take it.’

Pulisic started three of Chelsea’s first four Premier League games, then went the entire month of September without seeing the field in the Prem at all.

But while first-year Chelsea manager Frank Lampard noted that Pulisic faces serious competition for playing time on the wings in the form of Mason Mount, Willian, Pedro, and Callum Hudson-Odoi he has also remained positive about Pulisic’s chances of getting regular game time for Chelsea and dismissed talks of the 21-year-old leaving on loan in January.
