Peter Schmeichel believes Chelsea outcast Christian Pulisic should seek an exit

Premier League great Peter Schmeichel believes Chelsea outcast Christian Pulisic should seek an exit from the west London outfit to get his career back on track.

Pulisic has struggled for regular game time so far this season and the change in management earlier in the year, with Graham Potter being brought in to replace Thomas Tuchel, has failed to revive the fortunes of the American international.

With the former Borussia Dortmund wide player unable to make a lasting impact with his sporadic appearances on the starting team sheet, he has been urged by Schmeichel ( via CBS Sport) to follow Timo Werner’s path after the latter had signed for Leipzig last summer.

“[Werner’s] gone back, I admire that. It takes a really, really brave man to go back to where you came from.

“I think what you have to take into the equation as well is how long is a footballer’s career? How many years can you actually play at the top?

“How many years are you prepared to not play? So this is why I think for Timo Werner to go back there, he wants to play, of course he wants to play.

“I think for someone like Pulisic, I don’t think he will get many chances at Chelsea. Not the way they bought in the summer, the players they brought in.

“I think it’s a great time now, great opportunity there, there’s a World Cup there, he’ll get a run in the team, have a good World Cup. The January transfer window’s coming up, I think there’s an opportunity for him.”

Newcastle United have been heavily linked with a swoop for the Chelsea first-team star with the Magpies, who have enjoyed a flying start to the new campaign, looking to table a bid for Pulisic in the upcoming transfer window.

Graham Potter is likely to green light a move away from Stamford Bridge for Pulisic with the former expected to dip into the transfer market come January for a new striker to bolster his front line.
