Pedro Would Do Well In The MLS, Says Chelsea Legend Burley

According to former Chelsea star Craig Burley, Blues midfielder Pedro would be “a very good signing for any club in the Major League Soccer” despite approaching his 33rd birthday and the end of his contract at the Premier League side.

The Spanish World Cup winner is set to drop into the free-agent pool this summer transfer market, with his terms at Chelsea lapsing down. Pedro spent nearly half a decade in English football and the hard-working forward, who previously stepped out of the famous La Masia academy system at Barcelona to become a star at the Camp Nou.

Pedro is now fast approaching the end of his distinguished career, but despite entering his twilight years it appears there is at least one more challenge left in him.

It’s possible that he opens the door for a move to North America, with MLS teams among those said to be considering moves for the Spaniard.

Ex-Chelsea star Craig Burley believes that Pedro should be mulling over such a switch as it seems clear that he no longer has a regular role to play in Frank Lampard’s young and exuberant squad.

While speaking to ESPN FC, the 48-year-old Burley revealed that at the end of the day, Chelsea and Lampard are keen on promoting young players and Pedro just doesn’t fit in that category, “I think he’s good enough to play at a reasonable level, wherever that may be. At the end of the day, Chelsea are looking for younger players. They’ve got a number of players they can select in similar positions [to Pedro].”

The former Scotland midfielder then added that he feels Pedro would be a great addition to any MLS team because of his attitude and desire to play regular football, “When you put all those things together, he would be a very good signing for someone in Major League Soccer. Although he’s turning 33, he’s still got a lot to offer, and he’s a very hard-working player.”
