Julian Nagelsmann’s prediction about the performance of Timo Werner seems to come true which he made way back last summer. The head coach and manager of RB Leipzig, Julian Nagelsmann warned Chelsea of the challenges Timo Werner would face in the Premier League.
Chelsea manager and head coach Frank Lampard well knew the prediction made by Timo Werner’s former manager but he seemed to back him up at several public appearances and help him to regain his form.
In an interview, Werner’s former manager made his prediction which seems to be less imaginative and more factual now. The German striker has gone more than 12 matches without a goal and is nowhere near the form he produced in the German league.
He said as per football.london reports: “The opponents are not perhaps the best for Timo Werner because there’s not a lot of space behind the defensive line.”
“Today we decided to play with three offensive midfielders to create the spaces between the lines, and all the three midfielders did very well.”
Nagelsmann had mentored Werner and is aware of his game inside out for quite a long time and his panics about the striker’s ability to penetrate a deep defense have been proved right. Werner has troubled to adapt to life in Chelsea as the German international scoring just four goals all this season and none since November.
The Blues’ coach, Lampard although talked about putting faith in him in public ahead of the last two Premier League matches, but he has not selected him for either of the game due to his poor performances.
He, although has appeared as a substitute against both Fulham and Leicester, missed two chances to score a goal and made a little contribution for his team in the 2-0 loss to the Foxes.
Lampard said: “It’s very normal for Timo and the other forward players who have come in that it will take some time to get used to my ideas and their teammates’ ideas.”
“We haven’t had time on the training pitch for that. That can only be done at full pace in training, to work on the high press. That’s why the last two weeks have been really useful.
“I think his performances have been pretty good and I think they will get better the more he works with his teammates.”
Now the question arises on why Nagelsmann could see the problems but Lampard couldn’t and if it’s too late for him to do anything about it.
Werner’s poor form has definitely brought the manager’s job under scrutiny and also Lampard’s ability to pick the right team for the rest of the league is questionable.
