Mendy’s communication with the defense in French isn’t an issue says Lampard

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea bounced back to winning terms against Crystal Palace with the second-half goals from Ben Chilwell, Jorginho, and Kurt Zouma.

Senegalese keeper, Edouard Mendy made his debut for Chelsea against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup a few days back. Although he could not save a spot-kick in the tie-breaker, he had a good overall performance with some key saves in the match.

Today’s Crystal Palace match at the Stamford Bridge saw a balanced display in all the areas of Chelsea. The former Rennes keeper was hardly tested on his first Premier League outing with the visitors made a very few to negligible attempts on the goal.

The fans were not present in the stadium and that allowed all the people to hear Mendy directing the Chelsea backline on several occasions in the French Language. It was also a debut match for Ben Chilwell who was considered to not understand French by some football pundits.

When asked about the potential issues in communication, Lampard seemed not so stressed about it as per Tribal Football news.

Lampard said: ‘I don’t know about Ben learning it, it’s been a long time since I learned French at school.

‘I think it’s a position we’re in at the moment. Edou speaks good English as well to be fair.”

The Blues coach says that the situation isn’t an issue as there are French players in the backline like Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma while Cesar Azpilicueta understands the language well too. He isn’t concerned as there were no such problems with the defensive structure with Mendy in goal.
