Matthijs de Ligt is said to be edging closer to a Bayern Munich move in a fresh setback to Chelsea’s plans of signing the Dutch defender in this summer’s transfer window.
The Juventus centre-back has been eyed up by the Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel who has his task cut out overhauling a depleted defensive roster that lost the services of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
De Ligt, however, appears keen on the idea of joining German giants Bayern Munich rather than make the switch to Stamford Bridge with Bayern tabling a big-money offer for the defender, according to a report from The Sun.
Bayern are understood to have lodged a bid worth £76 million for Juventus to consider with the Bundesliga champions ready to fork out £292,000 a week in wages to De Ligt for joining them over Tuchel’s Chelsea.
These developments would sure be a downer for Chelsea and Tuchel who have kept close tabs on De Ligt’s situation in the Juventus camp since the turn of the year when the player’s talks for renewed terms went sour.
