Mateo Kovacic doesn’t deserve to go down the Pecking Order

The fact that Mateo Kovacic has been the best player for Chelsea in 2019-20 is strange but true. He is the most underrated guy in the squad who can go down the pecking order with the new arrival of new-stars.

Kovacic hasn’t got the deserved appreciation after his impressive season with Chelsea.. whether it is due to the new high voltage arrivals joining the club or the lack of super stats.

He surely was Chelsea’s invisible star and will surely be in the coming seasons if he gets to play matches. He will be crucial for Lampard’s goal to win big from all fronts.

He was Lampard’s untouchable player last season and also won the Fan’s vote for Chelsea’s best player of the season.

Kovacic is one of the most experienced players in the squad. He has 3 Champions League under his belt and massive European experience.

He was tipped to succeed Real Madrid star, Luka Modric but left the Spanish giants in search of game time. Chelsea is fairly an inexperienced squad with abundant youngsters.

Kovacic may take matters on his hand when the Blues will struggle to find someone taking the charge. Of course, the addition of Thiago Silva will help in the backline but who else apart from that?

It has been two excellent seasons for Kovacic and it won’t be unrealistic to see him take the lead. He could be an example to the ambitious young players of the squad and can show them how to be a professional.

Alongside N’Golo Kante, he will play a crucial role for the Blues. He will be in the two-man pivot in Lampard’s 4-2-3-1 formation. The defensive duo will be pivotal to shield the Chelsea defense.

His dribbling ability and unique vision will also allow him to absorb the opponent’s press. This will also allow his most prized dribbling asset and he will be utilized fully to his potential.

Kovacic is one of the trickiest midfielders to get dispossessed with the ball on his feet. The Croatian international has a mixture of strength along with his world-class ball retention skills to put off opponent players. His stats of 90% accuracy in pass gets you an underrated yet world-class player in the middle of the field.

He has struggled under Maurizio Sarri in his first season. But circumstances like the transfer ban forced the club to make his move permanent. The arrival of Frank Lampard as the Chelsea Boss changed the whole scenario for Mateo Kovacic.

“I have good communication with him. I am working on my bad sides of my game.” the Croatia international said last term.

The former Chelsea player and the current manager, Lampard was key to his development.

He feels that he is developing more and more in Chelsea- something that he lacked in Real Madrid due to lack of game time.

“I am talking to him a lot and I am analyzing my game. I think I am becoming a better player but it is normal because I am getting more mature. I am a good age so I feel good.”

Lampard has certainly been impressed by Kovacic’s improvement.

“Kovacic played with a personality and a quality that makes you go. He can play in pretty much any team with that level,” the Chelsea boss enthused last season.

Needless to say, his development should not be hindered by Lampard.

The midfielder may not be the flashiest player in the squad, but being the player of the year in the last season must not be forgotten. One shouldn’t question his commitment to the club.
