Mason Mount no closer to signing a new contract with Chelsea

Mason Mount is reportedly no closer to signing a new contract with Chelsea despite Mauricio Pochettino seeing him as a key part of his rebuild at the Bridge this summer.

The England playmaker’s future in the Chelsea shirt beyond this coming summer has been the subject of much speculation with Mount yet to agree upon a new long-term deal in west London.

It was said that the incoming Chelsea permanent manager Pochettino was keen to retain Mount’s services after identifying him as integral to his plans at the club and restarting the negotiations to extend his stay.

According to a report from the Evening Standard, it is claimed that Mount remains hopeful of securing a deal closer in line with the other senior members of the Chelsea squad who are pocketing a higher wage than him.

Mount’s England teammate Reece James last year penned a six-year contract worth £250,000 a week and the former would be looking to pocket a similar salary in light of his growing stature in the Chelsea camp.
