Mason Mount A Doubt For Liverpool Clash

Chelsea’s young star Mason Mount is a doubt for the clash against table-toppers Liverpool on Sunday at Stamford Bridge after picking up an injury in the game against Valencia on Tuesday. The 20-year-old was forced off after just 16 minutes following a heavy challenge from former Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin.

Chelsea went on to lose the match 1-0 after Valencia forward Rodrigo scored from a well-taken free-kick, Chelsea were given a lifeline late in the second half when they were awarded a penalty but Ross Barkley hit the crossbar.

Mason Mount has had a wonderful start to the season scoring three goals in five Premier League games for Chelsea, his form earned him a call up to the England squad and he subsequently won his first cap for his country.

If not fit, the 20-year-old will be a big miss for Chelsea as he and fellow academy graduate Tammy Abraham’s form has been the bright spark in Chelsea’s season so far.

Frank Lampard was not very positive about Mason Mount being fit to play against Liverpool on Sunday.

‘He has got an ankle injury which we don’t know how bad it is,’ Lampard said after Tuesday night’s defeat.

We are going to have to assess it in the next 24-48 hours to see the scale of the injury, to see how the injury is. ‘It’s too soon to say, obviously it was a shame because he was playing so well and started well and we had to make the change early.’
