Marcos Alonso’s goal vs Burnley gets nominated as the goal of the month January

Chelsea’s forgotten left-back, Marcos Alonso’s goal has been nominated as the goal of the month of January as per the Official Chelsea Website. He has been left out in the cold by the former manager, Frank Lampard as he spent the majority of the time on the sidelines.

Lampard was sacked after Chelsea’s poor run of form in the Premier League. he was replaced by the former PSG coach, Thomas Tuchel who handed out his first game of the year 2021. He impressed and even scored a late goal to put the game to bed.

The beautiful goal from the Spanish international came late on in the 2-0 victory against Burnley at Stamford Bridge to register the first victory under newly-appointed Thomas Tuchel.

Alonso responded well to the pass from Christian Pulisic on the chest by cushioning the ball on his knee before hitting it into the top far corner.

Alonso’s effort has been nominated alongside seven others for the league’s best goal in the month of January. The other players selected are Eberechi Eze for Crystal Palace, Kieran Tierney & Bukayo Saka for Arsenal, Tanguy Ndombele & Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for Tottenham, Patrick Bamford for Leeds and Mo Salah for Liverpool.

If Alonso’s goal is judged the best goal then it will be the first award after Eden Hazard, who won it for his unbelievable solo goal against West Ham in April 2019. Voting will close at 6 pm on Monday 8 February and the winner will be announced on Friday 12 February.
