Marcos Alonso Wants To Remain at Chelsea

Spanish wing back Marcos Alonso has admitted that he wants to remain at Chelsea and he is happy at Stamford Bridge despite the fact that he lost out his place to Emerson Palmieri towards the back end of last season.

In Maurizio Sarri’s one and only season as Chelsea manager, he had quite a mixed bag of everything but overall it should be termed as a successful season at West London for the 60-year-old. The Italian master tactician won the Europa League title and helped the Blues finish in the third spot on the Premier League table despite the problems that he faced with the Chelsea board and the fans to a certain extent.

However, Sarri returned back to Italy as the job vacancy at Juventus opened up and former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has succeeded the Italian after spending just one season in management with Derby County in the Championship. The 41-year-old has already decided the players that he wants to keep and offload in the summer transfer window as Chelsea continue their preseason training.

Marcos Alonso also had a bit of a mixed season last term as he was constantly in and out of the first team when Sarri was in charge and the left back was linked with a move to Spain as La Liga trio of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid were keen on his signature. Sarri preferred to use Emerson Palmieri at the end of the campaign and Alonso was not really part of his Chelsea team because of his poor form.

The left back had struggled for form last season and had two wonderful campaigns with Chelsea just before winning the Premier League in his first and FA Cup in his second. But despite the rumors linking the 28-year-old defender away from Stamford Bridge Alonso has claimed that he is keen on staying and looking forward to his time spent with Frank Lampard.

While speaking on a possible move away from West London, Alonso said that he only signed a contract extension last season and wants to stay because he is happy at the club, “Of course. I signed a new contract last year and I’m very happy here. I don’t know if there’s been any contact, you will have to speak to Marina [Granovskaia] about that. I have four more years here and I’m very happy. Last three years have been amazing and I want more of that. I want to keep playing and winning things. I think it’s a fresh start for everyone, Last year is part of the past and now I just want to keep working, enjoy playing and to help the team win and get better.”
