Manchester City and Chelsea moving into the final stages in Mateo Kovacic deal

It appears that Mateo Kovacic’s transfer from Chelsea to Manchester City is nearing completion, as the final stages of the move are being worked out.

While there were no issues with personal terms, reaching an agreement on the transfer fee posed a challenge. However, it seems that this hurdle may soon be overcome, as the Premier League champions are ready to meet the Blue’s asking price.

As reported by Fabzirio Romano, the West Londoners want €30 million for the Croatian midfielder whereas Man City has currently placed a €25m bid.

It would not be an issue for Pep Guardiola’s side to increase their future as personal terms have been fully agreed with the player.

Chelsea, known for their active involvement in the transfer market, is currently undergoing significant changes with a new board and a potential new manager.

Kovacic has entered the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, allowing him to engage in discussions with foreign clubs for a pre-contract agreement in January 2024.

While Chelsea is reluctant to lose the player, there is a sense that the former Real Madrid midfielder is prepared to leave the club.

Recent talks between Kovacic’s agents and Man City have been a positive one. The specific details of the payment structure are being discussed, with Chelsea aiming to secure the funds before the end of June.

The Croatian has been an outstanding player for Chelsea throughout his tenure, but a move to the Etihad Stadium would provide him with more opportunities to compete for titles, even if he may not feature regularly in the starting lineup.

Man City are already busy in the market as they are currently dealing with Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan’s contract matter. They are also preparing an offer for Red Bull Leipzig’s highly-rated defender Josko Gvardiol, who is valued at £100 million.

Chelsea is also eager to secure a significant up-front fee for Kovacic, but they face a deadline of June 30 to complete the deal due to financial considerations for the upcoming season.

The transfer is expected to be finalized within the next few weeks, as personal terms between the player and the club have already been agreed upon.

Kovacic, during his time at Chelsea, has won four Champions League trophies (including three with Real Madrid) and the Europa League in 2019. He has made 221 appearances for the Blues, scoring six goals and providing 15 assists.
