Man U’s Luke Shaw pointed out one Chelsea player that prevented them from winning

Manchester United’s Luke Shaw points out the one play that made both parties share a point at Old Trafford. The player is none other than Chelsea’s new summer signing goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy. Shaw believes that his wonderful saves kept Chelsea in the game against them as they created better chances as per him.

The full-back was left bemoaning seeing the fantastic display by the Senegalese keeper as they kept on attacking in the final minutes of the game to clinch three points. The game ended with a 0-0 draw leaving Chelsea in the sixth position in the League table.

Lampard’s side conceded 14 shots by the Reds as compared to their six in a highly competitive game which failed to live up to the hype, with Marcus Rashford squandering the best chances for Manchester United.

Shaw felt United could have clinched the victory had it not been the Chelsea keeper’s brilliant display.

He told the Red Devils’ official website: “I feel like we created the better chances.

“Their keeper made wonderful saves at times. I was right behind it Rashford’s shot] and, as I said, their keeper was very good today. He made a couple of very good saves that kept them in the game.

“We defended much better than we have been, especially against a very good team like Chelsea who has high-quality players all around the pitch.

“I feel like they didn’t really create much, and we did well in that aspect – but higher up the pitch, we should have maybe grabbed a goal, or maybe even two, and taken the three points.”

Rashford was on a 1-on-1 with Mendy from a ball played midway through by Juan Mata in the first half, but Mendy saved his effort with a strong right leg.

The Red’s striker’s efforts were also denied in the final moments of the game as he struck a curler towards the far corner of the net from just outside the penalty box. The Senegalese shot-stopper flew across his goal and sent the ball away for a corner.

Apart from the VAR incident with Maguire and Cesar Azpilcueta, Frank Lampard’s side were unable to create any key moments of the match.
