Major blow dealt to Chelsea as Romelu Lukaku asserts desire to stay at Inter Milan

Romelu Lukaku has dealt a hammer blow to his former Chelsea who were in line to propose an offer for the Inter Milan star striker ahead of the next season with the player’s recent comments indicating his desire to stay put in Italy this summer.

Lukaku has been targeted by the Blues with Thomas Tuchel keen to sign a big-name forward to add to his attacking line as the west Londoners aim to challenge for the Premier League title in the forthcoming campaign.

Lukaku says no intentions of leaving Inter Milan in the summer

The Belgium international, currently on duty with Roberto Martinez’s side, has asserted that he intends to rebuff interest from other clubs and stay at Inter Milan beyond the summer, according to reports from Kristof Terreur.

“Yes, I am staying.”

“I’ve already had contact with the man who normally becomes our new manager.”

“Maybe I shouldn’t say that yet… but it was a very positive conversation.”

Lukaku was a major star presence of the Inter side that clinched Serie A glory this past season after a ten-year-long wait with the forward finding the back of the net 24 times across the domestic campaign.

Chelsea could turn to alternative options amid Lukaku blow

The recent developments could mean Tuchel focusing more on luring Borussia Dortmund talisman Erling Haaland with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Haaland too has been high on Chelsea’s wishlist but it remains to be seen whether Dortmund seeks a much higher valuation for their star attacker to leave with no replacements lined up.
