Lyon have played down the recent speculation of Emerson’s loan recall to Chelsea this January with the wing-back set to be retained by the Ligue 1 outfit.
An injury to Ben Chilwell which looks set to sideline him for the remainder of the campaign had forced the Blues boss Thomas Tuchel to request Lyon into recalling their loanee Emerson Palmieri.
The Italy international had been shipped out on a season-long loan spell in the summer transfer window by the Stamford Bridge giants after being deemed surplus to requirements following Chilwell’s exciting run of form.
On the hunt for much-needed cover for the left side of their defence, Tuchel’s hopes for Emerson’s return to the Chelsea fold has been dealt a massive blow with Lyon asserting that they have no plans of cutting the wing-back’s loan stint earlier than the due date.
Lyon manager Peter Bosz, according to reports from Metro, has confirmed that the French club will retain Emerson’s services beyond the Janaury transfer window which opened at the turn of the year.
‘Yes, we will keep Emerson.’
