Sadio Mane’s brace helps Liverpool defeat 10-man Chelsea 2-0 | EPL 20-21

Liverpool ace Sadio Mane netted twice to give Liverpool FC two wins out of two matches in the 2020-21 season of top-flight football in England.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool beat a 10-man Chelsea 2-0 at the Stamford bridge which arises many question son team selection and individual performances.

Chelsea defender, Andreas Christensen put a ridiculous yet desperate attempt to stop Sadio Mane from going forward. The referee made no mistake in giving away a yellow card to Christensen. But after reviewing VAR, the referee changed his decision leaving Chelsea a man short on the field.

In the closing moments of the first half, the efforts of Christiansen although prevented a goal but made the game even more difficult for Chelsea. The Reds immediately took advantage of their numerical power as soon as the second half resumed. Mane opened the scoreboard with a sublime header. Just some minutes after the first goal, Liverpool scored second which saw Kepa misplacing a pass.

With the ball on his feet and Liverpool players pressing to take the ball, Kepa nervously took some time to pass the ball which was intercepted by Sadio mane to put into the goal.

It was another mishap by the young Spaniard keeper after a disastrous previous season. There is plenty of speculation that the error-prone Kepa could be set for a spell on the bench, with the Mendy deal almost done.

Liverpool did one change in the starting XI with Fabinho coming in the Centre-half in place of Joe Gomez who is injured. New signing, Thiago Alcantara made his debut for Liverpool after moving from the UEFA Champions League winners, Bayern Munich.

Chelsea earned a penalty when Timo Werner was clipped in the penalty box Liverpool’s new summer signing Thiago Alcantara.

The young German striker was the only threat to the Liverpool defence with his constant runs and positioning troubling the Liverpool defence. In the first half, Kai Havertz’s made a pass to Timo. That was the biggest chance for the Blues which could give them a lead. The shot went inches away from the net.

But the penalty earned by Werner saw the young striker dribbled into the defence lead by Virgil Van Dijk. As usual, Jorginho stood up to take the penalty but was denied by Allison Bekar.

The Brazilian keeper predicted right and palmed away Jorginho’s cheeky spot-kick attempt to give Chelsea a consolation goal in the Stamford Bridge.

With not being able to convert the penalty, Jurgen Klopp’s boys eased home to maintain their winning streak in the 2020-21 campaign.

For most of the match, Liverpool dominated possession. Chelsea was defending well enough in the first half while posing a decent threat on the counter-attack. Some unfortunate miss along with some incorrect passes prevented Chelsea to take the lead but the red card hurt more than everything else.

Although Liverpool dominated them in possession, the game was won by the individual brilliance of Fabinho and Sadio Mane along with Kepa’s errors.

This victory at the Stamford Stadium takes Jurgen Klopp’s men at the top of the League table. Their points are the same as that with Everton, Crystal Palace, and Arsenal who haven’t yet lost a single match in this campaign.

Lampard is striving to reach the highest standards and it will definitely need time. With Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva yet to feature, the defence problems will gradually disappear. Havertz will slowly find his feet too. Moreover, Hakim Ziyech is yet to make his debut for Chelsea, and the returning of Christian Pulisic will definitely make Chelsea a strong side. Looking at all this, Frank Lampard has a long way to go to reach the level of Liverpool and win the League title.
