Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers plays down talk of Wesley Fofana joining Chelsea

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has played down the talk of Wesley Fofana joining Chelsea this summer in his recent press conference, according to a report from Goal.

Fofana has emerged as the priority target for Chelsea in the transfer window with the Foxes central defender viewed as the perfect solution to overhaul the backline at Thomas Tuchel’s disposal.

Amid rumours that the Stamford Bridge camp are in line to table a world record bid for a defender to bring in Fofana, Leicester head coach Rodgers asserted that the 21-year-old was not for sale and would be expected to stay put with the Midlanders.

“The idea is that he is very much a Leicester player. He’s not for sale. Unless anything changes, I would expect him to be here.

“There’s nothing new from when we last spoke. We’ve spoken numerous times they are private conversations. Our communication is normal.”

Chelsea would hope that Rodgers’ recent remarks do not prove to be a setback to their pursuit of Fofana’s signature with Tuchel desperate to sign a new centre-back after parting ways with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen earlier in the summer.

Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly has made the move to the Bridge while Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta, subject to interest from Barcelona since the turn of the year, has penned a two-year extension with the Blues.
