Carabao Cup

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea will face Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham in the 4th round of the Carabao Cup 2020

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea will face Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspurs in the next round of the Carabao Cup after hammering Barnsley with a huge 6-0 scoreline. The match saw Kai Havertz’s hat-trick at the Stamford Bridge along with the debut of Thiago Silva for Chelsea.

They were unsure whom to face until Tottenham advanced to the next round without playing the match on Friday. Spurs will face the Blues after the match was cancelled due to a coronavirus outbreak at the fourth-tier team.

As per reports, League Two minnows had several players tested positive and had to go to quarantine in order to prevent the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus.

The match was hoped to be rearranged after it was called off hours before Tuesday’s kickoff but due to tough schedule Spurs was made to progress in the fourth round.

League Cup organizers came to a decision that: “it was unable to fulfill its obligations to complete the fixture … and shall therefore forfeit the tie.”

According to the EFL Board, they said that Orient had been unable to fulfill the fixture because of the order from the council. So the tie was forfeited the opposition was eliminated to allow their progress.

Lampard will be expecting not to blow the match with any individual errors as they are in peak form. Havertz has silenced the critics after bragging a hattrick whereas Werner has been fantastic from the start of the season. Chelsea has enough firepower upfront to challenge Mourinho.

But the Blues should be cautioned as Mourinho is a clever tactician and managed Chelsea previously too. He will surely hope to guide Spurs towards their first piece of silverware after 2008 when they won this League Cup only.
