“I’ve got no idea; I’ve not got anything. I don’t know if there is any truth on it, so not much to say I suppose,” Lampard said during a press conference.
The 3-1 win against Brighton saw Callum just playing 10 minutes for the team despite both Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic being injured for the Blues’ opening Premier League fixture of the new season.
After the COVID-19 pandemic break, Hudson Odoi has just played one match so far and a total of around 200 minutes for the Blues, despite Lampard’s previous statements suggesting he wants the English international to extend his stay at Chelsea.
The Chelsea coach hasn’t yet denied or confirmed the rumors surrounding the winger but insists that the selection of the first team is based on the training performances.
He also clears that he doesn’t have any favorites in the team and only improvements can help the players rise up their pecking order.
“I’d be surprised if any player is not disappointed when they don’t play games. I’d be very surprised by that. With Callum, the young player he is, he has to absolutely focus on the work he puts in on the training ground day in, day out.
“I lean on people because I want people to be successful, which, in turn, will hopefully make everybody here happy. Callum is a young developing player and a lot of talk has come his way because of the way his career has gone at a young age.
“The facts remain the same for all young players in the squad, they have to work every day with the idea to put themselves in the frame to start,” said the coach.
Chelsea is hoping to offload numerous players after spending huge in the transfer market but the fans think Hudson Odoi isn’t the one in that list. The winger still has four more years left on his Chelsea contract and is not looking to give away hope of breaking out in the first team.
