Lampard Sighs on Young Welsh Defender, Ethan Ampadu’s Situation at Chelsea

Wale’s defender Ethan Ampadu has been widely praised for his performance against Finland. He had a fantastic game and showed impressive ball control in his team’s 1-0 victory against Finland.

The young Chelsea defender played in defense and put in a solid performance to help keep a clean sheet.

Former Wales striker, Nathan Blake was under the impression that he could turn out to be an important prospect for the Welsh National team.

“I thought Ethan Ampadu as well at the back, playing slightly out of position. I thought he gave a really good account of himself,” he told BBC Sport.

Frank Lampard has admired the 19-year-old defender too in the past. But the situation in Chelsea has left Lampard with no choice rather than moving him out on loan.

He is down the pecking order with the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma all above him.

“I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year, so I’m a big fan.”

“But with the minutes he played last year, in the interest of Ethan and of Chelsea, the idea he can play a lot of games somewhere could be good for him,” Lampard said during when Ampadu’s loan move to RB Leipzig.

On his playing chances this season, Lampard said: “I really wanted to work with Ethan this year. That’s a slight disappointment, but it’s to benefit of him.”

Looking at his talent at such an young age and his display, it is clear that Chelsea will put an eye on him to get benefit in the long run.
