Jorginho Wants Chelsea To Play From The Back

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has urged his side to keep playing their football from the back despite the errors that have been caused by goalkeepers playing the ball in their own penalty area.

Arsenal and Manchester City were caught out due to their choice of trying to play the ball from the back.

The Gunners drew 2-2 against Watford at Vicarage Road last Sunday, but Arsenal gifted their opponents a goal as Sokratis Papastathopoulos’ pass from inside his own area was intercepted which then allowed Tom Cleverley to score.

Even Premier League champions Manchester City were caught out in their 3-2 defeat to Norwich City last weekend as the Argentine center-back Nicolas Otamendi’s mistake on the edge of his own area led to Teemu Pukki’s goal which could prove to be extremely costly if that proves to be the goal that hands Liverpool the title.

However, Jorginho is adamant that playing out from the back has major advantages if defenders are able to evade pressure from the opposition attackers and pass the ball to their teammates even though it is a major risk.

While speaking to The Athletic, the 27-year-old Italian midfielder said that you need to have some confidence in yourself as well as the team, “But it is still a risk worth taking, When you emerge from that pressure, with one or two passes the whole pitch can open up for you. You just have to have the confidence in yourself.”

Chelsea will face Liverpool on Sunday in their Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge and the Blues will have to face constant pressure due to the aggressive and pressing style of Klopp’s unit.
