Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic inching closer to a move to Chelsea

Ivan Perisic will leave Inter Milan as a free agent in the summer transfer window, according to the Italian website Sportmediaset. The 33-year-old midfielder will leave Serie A to join Chelsea, with personal details previously agreed between the two parties to complete a Bosman transfer.

Inter Milan has had Ivan Perisic for over seven years. However, since returning from a loan spell with Bayern Munich in the 2019/20 season, the Croatian international has grown in prominence. He had a strong 2020/21 season, but his current campaign has seen him improve dramatically.

The 33-year-old has performed admirably as a left wing-back, scoring nine goals and assisting eight times in 47 appearances across all competitions.

However, Perisic’s Inter Milan contract expires in a month, and he might leave the Serie A club as a free agent during the summer transfer window. Chelsea’s attention has been drawn to this matter.

Chelsea’s interest derives from the numerous uncertainty surrounding Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri’s futures. While Alonso wants to return to Spain and has been linked with Barcelona, Emerson could return to Italy, with numerous Serie A clubs interested in him.

With the departure of the pair, Ben Chilwell will be left as Chelsea’s only left wing-back option, especially with academy product Ian Maatsen on the radar of Borussia Dortmund. Given Perisic’s desire to leave Inter Milan, he is a feasible short-term option for the Blues to examine.

And now Ivan Perisic has agreed to join the Blues after he departs Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.

However, prominent Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has refuted Sportmediaset’s rumors, noting that Perisic has yet to sign a contract with any team. However, Romano stated that Chelsea is interested in signing the 33-year-old, and it will be intriguing to see whether he joins the Blues as a free agent.
