Inter Milan are set to resume talks with Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku

According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter Milan are set to resume discussions with Chelsea regarding the transfer of striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Italian club are eager to secure the services of the Belgian international on a permanent basis, following his impressive performances in the latter part of the previous season.

However, negotiations between Inter Milan and Chelsea have faced stumbling blocks, leading to a standstill in the talks.

Lukaku faced persistent muscle injuries in the early stages of the season, which led to a dip in his performance. As a result, Inter Milan had to reevaluate their plans for the summer transfer window.

Initially, Inter Milan had intended to return Lukaku to Chelsea after his loan spell. However, the 30-year-old striker experienced a resurgence in the latter part of the season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in the final seven matches.

His impressive late-season form convinced Inter Milan that he was a valuable asset worth retaining permanently. As a result, the Italian club intends to approach Chelsea again with an improved offer in order to finalize the deal.

At present, Inter Milan’s main priority lies in finalizing the transfer of Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi. Frattesi has garnered significant interest from top Italian clubs such as Juventus, AC Milan, and AS Roma.

However, Inter Milan seems to have gained an advantage over other competitors by reaching an agreement with Sassuolo.

Once Inter Milan completes the signing of Frattesi, they will resume negotiations for Lukaku, who is eager to leave Chelsea. Initially, Inter Milan had their loan bid for Lukaku rejected, as Chelsea prefers to sell him outright.

Milan intends to propose a new loan deal with a mandatory buy option for Lukaku. However, the financially constrained Italian club does not plan to make an extravagant offer for the striker.

Lukaku had the opportunity to join the Saudi Pro League but turned it down in favour of staying at Giuseppe Meazza. Inter Milan plans to leverage his desire to remain at the club as a bargaining chip in their discussions with Chelsea.

The ongoing negotiations between the two clubs are expected to continue in the following weeks, and it remains to be seen how the talks will unfold.
