I See No Problems With Azpilicueta Says Lampard

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has hinted that he will continue to play Cesar Azpilicueta despite the Spanish defender making errors in the backline.

The Blues haven’t had a great start to the new Premier League season as they have only secured four out of a possible 12 points after four games. But the West London side has even bigger problems to worry about because their defensive line has been an absolute shambles so far.

Chelsea has conceded the second-most goals in the Premier League so far only coming second behind newly promoted Norwich City. One of the worst players for Chelsea this season has been Cesar Azpilicueta and it’s quite strange to see the Spaniard make such silly mistakes on such a consistent basis mainly due to his experience.

Azpilicueta has been playing at right-back and been heavily criticized for the calamitous performances so far but Frank Lampard has insisted that he has no problems with the 30-year-old and explained that he admires the Spaniard for his professionalism. There were rumors that Reece James could be in line to replace Azpilicueta but Lampard has rubbished any such talk.

Ahead of the clash against Wolves, Lampard said, “Firstly, I played with Azpilicueta and I know him very well and he is the first player to stand up. The reason he’s captain is because of that professionalism and attitude He’s been an incredible player for a club that’s won a lot and he’s been central to winning a lot. He’s not just a bystander. He’s been right in the middle of it all and he will be aware more than anyone of his form and what it means. He will be the first one who wants to address it every minute of the day in training. I think he’s a big player for us and a big personality. I see no problem.”
